Job Advertisement: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher

Position: SEN Teacher
Location: Walsall
Start Date: November 2024

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teacher to join our dynamic team at a specialist school that provides high-quality education and care for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and those with challenging behaviours. Our school is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess personalized learning programs tailored to students with ASD and other complex needs.
  • Create a safe and nurturing classroom environment, using strategies to manage challenging behaviours effectively.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and external agencies to provide holistic support for students.
  • Implement behaviour management plans and individualized education programs (IEPs) in collaboration with other staff and parents.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues to ensure students' educational and emotional needs are met.
  • Utilize specialist resources and teaching methods that support sensory, social, and communication needs.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children with ASD, autism, and challenging behaviours.
  • Strong understanding of SEN strategies, including de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour support.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A passion for helping children reach their full potential, academically and emotionally.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a specialist SEN setting.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and relevant SEN legislation.
  • Ability to differentiate learning to meet a wide range of abilities and needs.
