SEN Teacher
Location: Salwick, Nr Preston, Lancashire  
Salary: M1 – M6 dependent on experience
Hours: 40 hours per week

Teaching personnel have a fantastic opportunity to work with a specialist day school based in Preston. The school cater for supporting boys aged 5 - 12 who face challenges associated with additional social, emotional and mental health needs.  

The Role:

To deliver high quality Key Stage 1 and 2 teaching and learning to young people with range of complex needs associated with SEMH.  The class size will be 8 students and you will have the support of 2 Teaching Assistants.  Students may also be on the autistic spectrum and have mental health and anxiety related conditions.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • To carry out the professional duties of a Teacher as outlined in the Professional Standards for Teachers.
  • To take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school’s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
  • To plan and deliver lessons following a broad and balanced curriculum according to DfE guidance and the school’s policies including reflective practice.
  • To be responsible for the day to day running of the class and assist in other relevant aspects of the day to day running of the school.
  • To assess, record and report pupils’ progress according the school’s policy in order to monitor and foster pupils’ progress in all areas of learning.

Essential Qualifications: 

  • PGCE, QTS, Cert Ed or equivalent teaching qualification and evidence of in-service training. 

Ideally successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

  • Experience of working in a primary school environment in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, ideally in specialist education.
  • Experience in Primary setting in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN, SLD/PMLD and ASC
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge
  • Experience of successfully delivering a differentiated curriculum to students with a wide range of needs.
  • Experience of working in a therapeutic environment
