SEN Teacher – Special Educational Needs School
Location: Salwick, Near Preston, Lancashire
Salary: M1 – M6 (dependent on experience)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Role Details
Our client is seeking an experienced and dedicated SEN Teacher to join their specialist school, which provides a supportive and nurturing environment for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The school caters to boys aged 5-12 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, along with other associated learning difficulties, including Autism and anxiety-related conditions.
As an SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching across Key Stages 1 and 2, ensuring a safe, engaging, and structured learning experience. You will be supported by two Teaching Assistants, with small class sizes of up to eight students to provide tailored, individualised support.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons following a broad and balanced curriculum aligned with Department for Education (DfE) guidelines.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students in line with safeguarding policies, including PREVENT.
- Assess, record, and report pupil progress in accordance with the school’s policies.
- Manage classroom responsibilities and delegate tasks to Teaching Assistants to enhance the learning experience.
- Support students with their social and emotional development, creating an inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
- Participate in staff meetings, multidisciplinary meetings, and professional development activities.
- Foster strong relationships with students, staff, and parents to promote a positive and supportive school community.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, Cert Ed, or an equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching in a primary school setting, ideally across Key Stages 1 and 2.
- Knowledge and experience of working with students with SEN, including Autism, SEMH, and other learning difficulties.
- Understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures.
- Experience in managing challenging behaviours and implementing effective classroom strategies.
- Experience delivering a differentiated curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students.
