Supply SEND Teacher (Primary) – SEN School, Liverpool

Contract: Full-Time, Supply (22/04/2025 – 22/07/2025)
Location: Liverpool
Age Range: Year 5 – Year 10

An SEN school in Liverpool is seeking a dedicated and adaptable Supply SEND Teacher to join their team for the summer term. This is an exciting opportunity to support a small, diverse class of pupils with complex learning needs, delivering a tailored and engaging curriculum.

About the Class:

The pupils have a range of additional needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Sensory Processing Difficulties
  • Communication Difficulties
  • Down Syndrome

Many students use communication aids and Makaton to support their learning, and they follow a bespoke sensory diet provided by Occupational Therapists to aid regulation and engagement in lessons.

The students are working significantly below their academic age, with abilities ranging from P6 on the Wilson Stewart P Steps to National Curriculum Year 1 in subjects such as Numeracy and Literacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver differentiated and engaging lessons tailored to students’ individual needs.
  • Implement communication strategies, including Makaton and AAC devices, to support learning.
  • Work closely with support staff and therapists to ensure the sensory and emotional needs of pupils are met.
  • Use a nurturing and structured approach to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Monitor and assess progress, adapting teaching strategies to meet individual learning goals.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant SEND teaching experience.
  • Experience working with pupils with complex needs, including ASC, ADHD, and communication difficulties.
  • Knowledge of Makaton and assistive communication tools (or a willingness to learn).
  • A patient, adaptable, and creative approach to teaching.
  • The ability to differentiate lessons to support pupils working below age-related expectations.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
