SEN Specialist Teachers – Wakefield
Are you a qualified teacher with a passion for supporting young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Our client schools include a range of specialist provisions supporting pupils aged 5–16 who are unable to access mainstream education. These provisions cater to pupils with a wide variety of needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), physical or learning disabilities, and complex medical conditions. Many pupils also have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). In addition to working in specialist provisions, you will also have the opportunity to work in primary and secondary schools, depending on your experience and preferences.
About the Role:
As an SEN Specialist Teacher, you will play a vital role in creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment. You’ll work flexibly across multiple specialist settings, delivering tailored lessons and interventions to help pupils achieve their academic, social, and emotional potential.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering lessons that are personalised to meet the diverse needs of pupils.
- Implementing strategies to reduce barriers to learning and foster independence.
- Supporting pupils with SEMH, ASD, and other additional needs to build confidence, resilience, and essential life skills.
- Collaborating with teaching assistants, SENCOs, and external professionals to provide holistic and individualised support.
- Using effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a calm and productive classroom environment.
- Monitoring and assessing pupil progress to ensure personalised targets are achieved.

Key skills and experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Experience working with pupils with SEN, particularly those with SEMH, ASD, or complex needs.
- A patient, adaptable, and empathetic approach to teaching.
- Confidence in using differentiated teaching methods to meet individual learning needs.
- Team Teach training or a willingness to complete this training (highly desirable).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
