SEN Primary Outreach Worker – Plymouth

Location: Plymouth
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Pay: £85 - £90 per day
Contract: Long-term, with temp-to-perm opportunities at the school's discretion

Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and making a real difference in their lives? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Primary Outreach Worker to join a specialist SEN school in Plymouth. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in SEN support who is looking for a long-term role with the potential for a permanent position.

The Role:

As an SEN Primary Outreach Worker, you will play a vital role in providing tailored support to children with a range of additional needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting primary-aged students with a variety of SEN, including Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
  • Creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment where children feel supported and valued.
  • Adapting teaching materials and activities to meet the diverse learning styles and abilities of students.
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to help develop academic, social, and emotional skills.
  • Using a range of communication techniques to support children with limited verbal skills, including Makaton, PECS, or AAC devices (training can be provided).
  • Supporting children with personal care and mobility needs where necessary, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
  • Building strong relationships with students, parents, and external professionals to support each child’s holistic development.
  • Transporting students when required, ensuring their safety and well-being during travel.

What We’re Looking For:

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Experience working with children with SEN in a school, care, or community setting.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting children with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • The ability to adapt and respond to the individual needs of each child, using a person-centred approach.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to implement de-escalation techniques effectively.
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A full UK driving licence and business insurance to transport students if needed.

Desirable (but not essential) Skills:

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, or a related field.
  • Training in safeguarding, Team Teach, MAPA, or other positive behaviour management strategies.
  • Knowledge of SEND frameworks, including EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
