SEMH Teaching Assistant
Job description
The Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant is an essential role in a secondary school, contributing to the overall well-being and development of students. The primary goal of this position is to support students in managing their emotions, fostering positive relationships, and enhancing their mental health. This role will work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to create a nurturing and inclusive environment that promotes academic success and personal growth.
Key Information:
- This role will be full-time, and it is due to begin as soon as you are cleared for work.
- You will be paid between £420 and £450 per week.
- Based on performance, there will be opportunities to go onto a permanent school contract.
- The school that you will be working in is located in Tameside.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement social, emotional, and mental health programs and activities for students, including group counselling, peer support, and mentoring initiatives.
- Monitor student progress and provide individualised support to those struggling with emotional or mental health challenges.
- Collaborate with school staff to create a safe and inclusive school climate that promotes respect, understanding, and acceptance among all students.
- Support teachers in integrating social, emotional, and mental health education into the curriculum and classroom practices.
- Liaise with parents and caregivers to provide information and resources about social, emotional, and mental health topics and support available for their children.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in social, emotional, and mental health support for students.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build rapport with students and establish trust.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise assignments.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
