SEMH Teaching Assistant
Job description
A SEMH provision in East Bristol is looking for a Teaching Assistant to join their values-driven community focused on learning, care, and co-curricular enrichment.
Join their growing team supporting students to reach their full potential. You’ll work closely with teachers and the Leadership Team to optimize SEND interventions, focusing on SEMH. You'll lead interventions, manage a small team of Teaching Assistants, and collaborate with teachers and families to support students' social, emotional, and mental health needs.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Developing and leading SEMH interventions and behaviour strategies.
- Monitoring progress, setting goals, and adjusting support as needed.
- Working with teachers to adapt activities for SEMH students.
- Engaging with families to support SEMH development at home.
- Guiding and supervising Teaching Assistants.
- Fostering an inclusive, supportive school environment.
- Coordinating with external support services.
- Keeping records and reporting progress to Leadership.
- Promoting SEMH knowledge and positive mental health.
The successful educator would have the following:
- Level 2 or 3 TA qualification or background in psychology, social work, or special education.
- Prior work with students with SEMH or SEND needs.
- Training in de-escalation techniques (e.g., Team Teach, CPI).
- Courses like Mental Health First Aid.
- Training in safeguarding and child protection.
- Strong ability to engage with students, families, and staff.
- Ability to document and track student progress.
- Basic First Aid is a plus

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
