Teaching Personnel are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and committed SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Support Assistant to work within a specialist provision in York. This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people who require tailored emotional and behavioural support to thrive in their education.

The Role:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs

• Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development

• Support pupils in accessing the curriculum, both in and out of the classroom

• Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and other professionals

• Assist with implementing individual behaviour and support plans

The Ideal Candidate Will:

• Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs (formal or informal)

• Be patient, understanding, and able to build positive relationships

• Remain calm and professional under pressure

• Be confident in de-escalation techniques and managing behaviour

• Have a genuine passion for helping young people reach their full potential

Desirable (but not essential):

• Team Teach or MAPA training

• Knowledge of trauma-informed practice

• Background in youth work, support work, or education
