Job description

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support Assistant with a Focus on SEMH

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a skilled and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support Assistant, specialising in Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH), to join a highly regarded primary school in Birkenhead. This is a long-term position, starting in October, with a duration of two terms. The school is seeking a committed support assistant to work one-on-one with a reception class pupil who is part of the new intake and requires both academic and social support.

The ideal candidate should have prior experience working with SEN pupils and possess a solid understanding of effective de-escalation techniques. The specific pupil has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) designed to address their SEMH needs, so the school places great importance on previous experience in providing regular updates and progress reports.

This role is scheduled from 8:45 am to 3:15 pm and comes with the added benefit of being part of a well-respected school community. The school has consistently received positive Ofsted ratings and has been oversubscribed for several years. It prides itself on exemplary pupil behaviour and is keen to recruit staff who value maintaining high standards.

As the successful candidate, you will receive dedicated support from the SENCO, with additional training and professional development provided to ensure you are fully equipped to offer the best possible support to the pupil. The school welcomes candidates from a variety of backgrounds, including those with experience in care and support roles, nursery settings, and school-based positions.
