Job Advert: SEMH Support Specialist (Classroom-Based)

Are you a dedicated and compassionate professional with experience in probation services, looking to make a difference in young lives? We are seeking a skilled individual to support pupils aged 6–11 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a classroom setting.

About the Role:

• Position: SEMH Support Specialist
• Location: Blackburn (BB1)
• Contract: Full-Time
• Start Date: January 2025
• Age Group: 6–11 years

This rewarding role involves working closely with pupils to support their behaviour, emotional well-being, and social development. You will be integral in helping them thrive in an educational environment through tailored strategies and interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct support to pupils with SEMH needs within the classroom.
• Implement a range of strategies to manage and improve behaviour.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils to help them develop social and emotional skills.
• Collaborate with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies to create a consistent and nurturing environment.
• Monitor and report on pupil progress, adapting approaches as needed.

About You:
We are looking for someone with:

• Previous experience in probation services or a related field.
• A strong understanding of Social, Emotional, and Mental Health challenges in children.
• Proven experience in supporting behaviour management using a variety of strategies.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
• Resilience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils.
