SLCN Support Assistant

SLCN – Speech, Language and Communication Support

Our schools in Hyndburn are experiencing more and more need for additional support in the classroom. We are looking for an experienced individual who can provide Speech, Language and Communication (SLCN) support within a mainstream Primary classroom.

  • Hours:  Full-time 8:30am – 3:30pm
  • Pay:  £12.90 - £13.50
  • Location:  Hyndburn

You will need to:

-          Work alongside the Class Teacher and SENCO to provide support for the children, during curriculum time.

-          Also deliver speech, language and communication interventions 1:1 or in small groups.

-          Build a strong, positive relationship with the children and their families, offering a collaborative approach.

-          Explore alternative communication methods and be adaptable to doing this.

-          Implement relevant behaviour strategies, whilst maintaining a calm approach.

-          Have genuine empathy, patience and a passion for working with and supporting children with SEMH.

-          Be positive and solution focused, ensuring the child can achieve their potential.

-          Have a good understanding of different special educational needs.

-          Be willing to make a positive impact on children’s educational journey.

Requirements:

-          You must have experience supporting children or young adults with either speech impediments or additional communication needs.

-          Have a strong knowledge of alternative communication needs.

-          Be experienced and confident in facing some challenging behaviour.

-          A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.

-          Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service.

-          An excellent understanding of Safeguarding Children.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
