A secondary school located in Portsmouth, known for their commitment to academic excellence, student wellbeing and staff development are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Teacher to join their dynamic and collaborative Science Department on a full-time basis with the start date to be confirmed. The successful candidate will teach Science across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to teach at Key Stage 5 depending on experience and subject specialism. You will deliver engaging lessons that promote scientific thinking, inquiry, and curiosity, while maintaining high standards for student progress and achievement.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated Science lessons in accordance with the national curriculum and departmental schemes of work.

• Teach General Science at Key Stage 3 and 4, and ideally a science specialism (Biology, Chemistry or Physics) at GCSE level.

• Foster a classroom environment that promotes high expectations, discipline, and enthusiasm for science.

• Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of students.

• Prepare pupils for internal and external examinations, including GCSEs.

• Use a variety of teaching strategies and learning technologies to enhance student understanding.

• Set and mark homework in line with school policy.

• Monitor student performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement intervention strategies as needed.

• Participate in departmental meetings, collaborative planning sessions, and whole-school CPD.

• Take part in the pastoral life of the school, including acting as a form tutor if required.

• Promote STEM enrichment opportunities such as clubs, competitions, and educational visits.

• Support the school’s ethos and values and contribute to the development of a positive and respectful school culture.

Essential Requirements:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – awarded in the UK.

• Specialism in Science (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).

• Suitable for ECTs or experienced teachers.

• Minimum of 6 months’ teaching experience in a UK secondary school setting.

• A sound understanding of the UK science curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4.

• Evidence of strong classroom practice and high expectations for students.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Strong organisational and time management skills.

Desirable Requirements:

• Ability to teach Science at Key Stage 5.

• Experience leading or contributing to STEM activities or extra-curricular clubs.

• Familiarity with adaptive teaching strategies for SEND and EAL learners.

• A passion for curriculum innovation and interdisciplinary teaching.

• Competence in using digital learning platforms and assessment tools.
