A secondary school located in Portsmouth, known for their commitment to academic excellence, student wellbeing and staff development are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Teacher to join their dynamic and collaborative Science Department on a full-time basis with the start date to be confirmed. The successful candidate will teach Science across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to teach at Key Stage 5 depending on experience and subject specialism. You will deliver engaging lessons that promote scientific thinking, inquiry, and curiosity, while maintaining high standards for student progress and achievement.
Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated Science lessons in accordance with the national curriculum and departmental schemes of work.

Teach General Science at Key Stage 3 and 4, and ideally a science specialism (Biology, Chemistry or Physics) at GCSE level.

Foster a classroom environment that promotes high expectations, discipline, and enthusiasm for science.

Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of students.

Prepare pupils for internal and external examinations, including GCSEs.

Use a variety of teaching strategies and learning technologies to enhance student understanding.

Set and mark homework in line with school policy.

Monitor student performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement intervention strategies as needed.

Participate in departmental meetings, collaborative planning sessions, and whole-school CPD.

Take part in the pastoral life of the school, including acting as a form tutor if required.

Promote STEM enrichment opportunities such as clubs, competitions, and educational visits.

Support the school’s ethos and values and contribute to the development of a positive and respectful school culture.
Essential Requirements:
-
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – awarded in the UK.
-
Specialism in Science (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).
-
Suitable for ECTs or experienced teachers.
-
Minimum of 6 months’ teaching experience in a UK secondary school setting.
-
A sound understanding of the UK science curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4.

Evidence of strong classroom practice and high expectations for students.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-
Strong organisational and time management skills.
Desirable Requirements:
-
Ability to teach Science at Key Stage 5.
-
Experience leading or contributing to STEM activities or extra-curricular clubs.
-
Familiarity with adaptive teaching strategies for SEND and EAL learners.
-
A passion for curriculum innovation and interdisciplinary teaching.
-
Competence in using digital learning platforms and assessment tools.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
