Science Teacher – Secondary School (Hyde)

Location: Hyde, Tameside
Start Date: January 2025
Salary: £31,650 - £49,084 per annum (M1 - UPS3 Teacher Pay Scale, dependent on experience)

Are you an enthusiastic Science teacher eager to ignite curiosity and passion for science in young minds? Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and innovative Science teacher to join a vibrant and forward-thinking secondary school in Hyde. Starting in January 2025, this role is central to the school’s mission of fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of science, helping students to excel academically and develop critical thinking skills that will serve them in all walks of life.

About the Role:
As a Science Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. The focus of this role is to make complex scientific concepts accessible and exciting, guiding students through their learning journeys as they prepare for GCSE exams. This role offers you the opportunity to inspire students with a blend of theoretical knowledge, hands-on experiments, and real-world applications of science, sparking curiosity and encouraging a lifelong interest in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning and Delivery:

    • Design and deliver dynamic and differentiated lessons that cater to a variety of learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students are engaged and challenged.
    • Utilize innovative teaching methods, including digital tools, interactive activities, and practical experiments, to bring scientific concepts to life.
    • Regularly assess students’ progress through formative assessments, quizzes, and projects, providing constructive feedback to promote continuous improvement.
  • Curriculum Development and Innovation:

    • Collaborate with the Science department to refine and enhance the curriculum, incorporating current scientific discoveries and trends.
    • Engage in collaborative planning sessions with other Science teachers to share ideas, resources, and best practices, contributing to a cohesive and exciting curriculum.
    • Create opportunities for students to participate in extra-curricular activities such as science clubs, field trips, and competitions, nurturing their interest in scientific inquiry
  • Classroom Management and Environment:

    • Establish a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment that encourages participation, collaboration, and respectful dialogue.
    • Implement effective classroom management strategies that minimize disruptions and maximize learning opportunities for all students.
    • Ensure all laboratory activities and experiments are conducted safely, following school policies and best practices for laboratory safety.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching qualification.
  • Specialization in Science (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics preferred) with proven experience teaching Science at the secondary level, ideally including Key Stage 4.
  • Strong Pedagogical Skills: An ability to make complex scientific topics engaging and understandable, with a talent for adapting lessons to diverse student needs.
  • Excellent Communication and Classroom Management Skills: Confidence in managing a classroom, establishing clear expectations, and building positive relationships with students.
  • Commitment to Continuous Improvement: A willingness to learn, adapt, and grow professionally, staying updated with advancements in science education.
