Science Teacher (Maternity Cover)

Role Overview:

Teaching Personnel is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Science Teacher to join a reputable secondary school in Denton, Tameside. This full-time position, starting in January, will cover a maternity leave and provides an excellent opportunity to teach in an Ofsted-rated Good school with a supportive community focused on academic success and student development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching Science at Key Stages 3 and 4: Deliver engaging and well-structured lessons in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, adhering to the national curriculum requirements and fostering a passion for science among students.
  • Personalized Instruction: Design lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners by using differentiated teaching methods to cater to varying levels of ability, ensuring each student can grasp challenging concepts.
  • Student Assessment: Conduct regular assessments to track student progress, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. Provide constructive feedback and adjust lesson plans based on assessment data to help students achieve their potential.
  • GCSE Preparation: Guide Key Stage 4 students in preparation for their science GCSEs, emphasizing effective exam strategies, laboratory skills, and thorough understanding of core topics.
  • Classroom Environment: Maintain a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, inquiry, and respect, making science accessible and relevant to students’ lives and future aspirations.
  • Classroom Management: Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a focused and respectful learning environment.
  • Department Collaboration: Work closely with the Science department, contributing to shared resources, engaging in curriculum planning, and supporting department goals. Attend regular team meetings to align on curriculum and teaching practices.
  • Parental Communication: Provide timely feedback to parents on student progress and collaborate on strategies to support students' learning both in and out of school.
  • Ongoing Professional Development: Participate in school-led and Teaching Personnel professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices and curriculum changes in Science education.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree in Science or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Proven experience teaching Science at the secondary level, with a strong understanding of the Key Stage 3 and 4 Science curriculum.
  • Subject Passion: An enthusiasm for Science and a commitment to inspiring students to explore and understand the natural world.
  • Student-Centered Approach: Dedicated to supporting each student’s academic journey, providing the guidance and encouragement needed to succeed in Science.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
