About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Psychology Graduates to work in a supportive educational environment, providing essential care and guidance to vulnerable children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This full-time role involves supporting students who have Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) in place, ensuring they receive the right support to thrive both academically and emotionally.
Psychology Graduates often excel in these settings due to their understanding of child development, mental health, and behavioural needs. They bring unique skills and knowledge that enable them to provide tailored care and implement strategies to support students’ emotional regulation, personal growth, and learning journey.
The School:
The school caters to children with diverse SEN requirements, including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The students may face challenges that impact their ability to engage fully in learning, and some may exhibit challenging behaviour as they process their emotions. This makes the role both rewarding and impactful, as staff play a critical role in helping students feel safe, understood, and supported.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEN and SEMH needs.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage confidence, engagement, and progress.
- Use knowledge of psychology to support students’ emotional wellbeing and help regulate challenging behaviours.
- Work closely with teachers and SENCOs to implement individualized strategies and interventions.
- Support students in accessing the curriculum and reaching their full potential.
- Create a nurturing, patient, and resilient environment to help students feel comfortable and secure.
- Assist with behaviour management, providing guidance and support to help students process their emotions positively.
- Contribute to the creation of a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning space.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- A degree in Psychology (or related discipline).
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children and young people.
- An understanding of SEN and SEMH needs, and how they can impact a child’s learning and emotional development.
- Patience, resilience, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations effectively.
- Experience working with children or young people in a similar role (desirable but not essential).
- A proactive, empathetic, and nurturing approach to education.
