Teacher of Science (KS3-4) – SEND

Location: Lowestoft

Format: Full time

Start date: Immediately

Day rate: £170-£220

The opportunity

Are you a dedicated and passionate Science Teacher with a strong commitment to supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? We are seeking an experienced SEND Teacher specialising in Science to make a meaningful impact on the education and development of young people with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and other additional needs.

You will be working for a school with Social Emotional and Mental Health needs, who are part of SENDAT Multi Academy Trust.

Your main purpose

As a Teacher, you will deliver outstanding teaching to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, as well as a variety of other needs, including ASD and ADHD. Your role will focus on nurturing the intellectual, physical, social, emotional, moral, and spiritual growth of each student.

You will create a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment where students can develop self-confidence, independence, and the skills needed for active participation in their communities. Using trauma-informed practices and Conscious Discipline strategies, you will support students in managing their behaviour and reaching their full potential.

You will teach core subjects and other areas of the SEND curriculum, tailoring your approach to meet the diverse needs of each student. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with parents, colleagues, and external professionals to ensure the comprehensive development and success of every student.

The Role

As a SEND Science Teacher, you will deliver engaging and motivating lessons designed to meet the needs of KS3 and KS4 students. You will play a vital role in building students' confidence, self-regulation, and academic progress within a supportive and structured learning environment.

Using trauma-informed practices and Conscious Discipline strategies, you will help students develop crucial life skills and reach their full potential.

By working closely with parents, colleagues, and external professionals, you will ensure a holistic approach to each student’s education. Alongside teaching Science, you may also be asked to teach other subjects, taking a flexible, student-centred approach to address individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality Science lessons tailored to students with SEND, adapting content to ensure accessibility and engagement.
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support, using specialist teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Implement trauma-informed and behaviour support strategies to help students regulate their emotions and behaviour.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, SENCO, and multi-agency professionals to develop effective Individual Education Plans (EHCPs).
  • Use assessment data to track student progress and plan personalised learning interventions.
  • Promote self-confidence, independence, and social inclusion to prepare students for adulthood and further education.
  • Maintain accurate records, including risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
  • Lead educational visits and enrichment activities to enhance students’ learning experiences.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – Essential
  • Experience teaching Science at KS3 and KS4 (experience in SEND settings is highly desirable).
  • A strong understanding of SEND teaching strategies and experience working with students with SEMH, ASD, and other additional needs.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and Conscious Discipline techniques (or willingness to train).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to creating an inclusive, safe, and nurturing learning environment.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
