PE Cover Supervisors required for secondary schools around Leigh Park

What is a Cover Supervisor?

A Cover Supervisor is responsible for overseeing students in the absence of their regular teacher, ensuring that set work is completed and behaviour is managed. As a PE Specialist Cover Supervisor, your focus will be on leading PE lessons, encouraging students to stay active, and ensuring lessons run smoothly.

You’ll be tasked with managing groups, facilitating sports sessions, and engaging students in a range of physical activities. This role is ideal for individuals with a passion for sport, recent graduates in a related field, or those considering a future career in education or coaching.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and lead PE lessons when the teacher is absent.
  • Manage classroom and sports field behaviour, ensuring students are engaged with their activities.
  • Set up and supervise sports equipment, ensuring safety standards are followed.
  • Provide guidance and encouragement to students to participate actively in physical activities.
  • Respond to questions from students regarding sports or fitness-related work.
  • Maintain a safe and structured environment both in the classroom and on the sports field.
  • Report back to teachers on students' participation, behaviour, and progress during PE lessons.
  • Assist with additional classroom supervision or administrative tasks when required.

Requirements:

  • Minimum GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • A degree in a sports-related discipline is beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience or knowledge in Physical Education, coaching, or fitness instruction.
  • A genuine passion for working with young people and promoting physical activity.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage groups effectively.
  • Confidence in managing sports equipment and ensuring student safety.
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting is advantageous but not essential.
  • Flexibility, patience, and resilience, especially when working with schools in Leigh Park, where behaviour management can sometimes be challenging.
