Role Overview:

Teaching Personnel is recruiting for an enthusiastic and skilled Maths Teacher to join a well-regarded secondary school in West Cornwall. This full-time maternity cover position begins in January, providing an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a diverse and supportive school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching Maths at Key Stages 3 and 4: Deliver high-quality, engaging lessons in Mathematics that meet national curriculum standards, encouraging a strong foundation in mathematical principles and problem-solving skills.
  • Tailored Instruction: Develop and implement lesson plans that cater to the varied learning styles and abilities within the classroom, using differentiation techniques to ensure each student can achieve their best.
  • Student Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assess and monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments, using data to inform teaching strategies and providing constructive feedback to help students excel.
  • GCSE Preparation: Support students in their preparation for GCSE examinations, offering revision guidance, exam techniques, and targeted support in areas of need.
  • Positive Classroom Environment: Foster a classroom environment that is inclusive, respectful, and conducive to active learning, encouraging students to participate and develop confidence in Maths.
  • Classroom Management: Implement effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a focused and positive learning environment.
  • Collaboration within Department: Work closely with colleagues in the Maths department, sharing resources and collaborating on curriculum planning. Participate in department meetings to discuss student progress and best practices.
  • Parent and Guardian Communication: Provide regular feedback to parents and guardians on student achievements and areas for improvement, working together to support each student’s learning journey.
  • Professional Development: Take advantage of professional development opportunities provided by the school and Teaching Personnel to stay updated on curriculum changes and effective teaching methodologies in Mathematics.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualifications: Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree in Mathematics or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Prior experience teaching Maths at the secondary level, with a solid understanding of the Key Stage 3 and 4 Maths curriculum.
  • Passion for Teaching: A commitment to inspiring and engaging students in Mathematics, helping them develop critical-thinking skills and a strong mathematical foundation.
  • Adaptability and Resilience: Able to adjust teaching strategies to meet individual student needs and maintain motivation, even in challenging situations.
