Teaching Personnel, the UK’s leading education recruitment agency, is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Literacy Support Assistant to join one of our partner secondary schools in Oldham. This role is vital in helping students enhance their literacy skills, providing them with the foundation they need to excel academically and beyond. Key Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted literacy support to students in both one-to-one and small group settings, focusing on improving reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
- Assist classroom teachers in planning and delivering literacy-focused lessons and activities, tailoring resources to meet the individual needs of students.
- Monitor and track student progress, maintaining accurate records and providing detailed feedback to teachers and senior staff.
- Support the implementation of literacy intervention programs, working closely with the SENCO and other educational professionals to enhance student outcomes.
- Promote a love of reading by organizing and leading reading activities, book clubs, and school-wide literacy events.
- Create a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages all students to improve their literacy skills and achieve their full potential.
- Engage with parents and carers, offering guidance on how to support literacy development at home.
- Manage and organise literacy resources, ensuring students have access to a wide range of engaging and appropriate reading materials.
About You
- Experience working with secondary school students in an educational or support role, particularly with a focus on literacy development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and engage students of varying abilities.
- A strong passion for literacy and education, with a genuine commitment to helping students improve their reading and writing skills.
- Organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively with school staff.
- Empathy, patience, and a positive attitude, with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students and colleagues.
- A sound understanding of safeguarding practices and a commitment to the welfare and safety of all students.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
