Role and Responsibilities
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide essential support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them achieve their personal and academic goals. Your responsibilities will include:
- In-Class Support: Assist students during lessons, helping them understand and engage with the material, and providing individual support as needed.
- Supporting Students with SEND: Work closely with the SENCo and teaching staff to support students with special educational needs, particularly those in Years 7 and 8 who may need additional help to settle and succeed in school.
- Encouraging Positive Behaviour: Help reinforce the school’s behaviour policy by promoting respectful and focused behaviour, contributing to a positive learning environment.
- One-on-One and Small Group Interventions: Provide targeted support for students needing extra help, particularly with literacy, numeracy, and social skills.
- Building Relationships: Develop supportive, trusting relationships with students, enabling them to feel comfortable and confident in their learning environment.
- Collaborative Support: Work alongside teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to create comprehensive support plans for students with specific needs.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Previous Experience working with children or young adults in an educational or support setting, ideally within a secondary school.
- A passion for helping students succeed and a patient, supportive approach to working with young people.
- An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, special educational needs and behavioural strategies.
- Strong Communication Skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Flexibility, teamwork, and a commitment to contributing to the school’s improvement journey.
