Job description

A highly reputable and award-winning SEN School Group is seeking an experienced and dedicated Head of Science to join the permanent staff of their Wakefield site. This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate educator to lead and develop the science curriculum within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

The Role:

The Head of Science will be responsible for leading and managing the science department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning tailored to the needs of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The successful candidate will play a key role in curriculum development, staff mentoring, and fostering a positive learning experience for all pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the science department, providing strategic direction and innovation in teaching methodologies.
  • Develop and implement an inclusive science curriculum that meets the diverse needs of SEN students.
  • Support, mentor, and manage a team of science teachers and support staff.
  • Ensure outstanding teaching standards and student progress through effective assessment and tailored learning approaches.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leadership and other departments to support the wider school ethos and objectives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SEN best practices and ensure the department complies with educational regulations and policies.
  • Foster an engaging and safe learning environment that inspires curiosity and confidence in students.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent with a strong background in science education.
  • Proven experience in a leadership or management role within a school setting.
  • Experience working with children with SEN and a thorough understanding of their learning needs.
  • Strong curriculum development skills and a track record of raising educational standards.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and team leadership abilities.
  • A passion for inclusive education and a commitment to supporting students with additional needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
