Location: Darwen, Lancashire
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR 2b
Start Date: September 2025 or earlier by negotiation

An ambitious secondary school in Darwen is seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Head of Drama to lead the development of performing arts within the school. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher ready to take on a leadership position and help shape a dynamic and engaging Drama curriculum.

The Role:
As Head of Drama, you will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, curriculum planning, and delivery of Drama across the school. You will lead and support colleagues within the department and work closely with the wider leadership team to enhance the cultural and creative life of the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong leadership to the Drama department and model excellent classroom practice

  • Design and implement a broad, inclusive Drama curriculum that engages all learners

  • Monitor and evaluate teaching standards, student progress, and department performance

  • Lead enrichment opportunities such as school productions, theatre trips, and workshops

  • Foster an inclusive environment that encourages creativity, confidence, and collaboration

  • Support the wider strategic aims of the school through contribution to middle leadership

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have experience teaching Drama at secondary level

  • Be passionate about the performing arts and their impact on student development

  • Have experience of curriculum design and departmental leadership (or be ready to step into a leadership role)

  • Demonstrate strong communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills

  • Be committed to continuous improvement and inclusive education
