Exciting Opportunity: Head of Art and Photography
Location: Andover | Start Date: September 2025
Full-time, Permanent Contract

Are you an enthusiastic and innovative leader with a passion for Art and Photography? Teaching Personnel is delighted to present an exceptional opportunity for a Head of Art and Photography at a well-established and creative secondary school in Andover. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone ready to lead a dynamic department and make a lasting impact on students' artistic journeys.

About the Department:
The Art & Photography department is a well-resourced and vibrant hub at the heart of the school. Students start with a solid foundation in Art & Design during Key Stage 3, followed by Photography lessons in Year 9. They then have the option to study Pearson Fine Art GCSE or AQA Photography GCSE, both of which are popular choices at Key Stage 4. The department is housed in two spacious, light-filled Art rooms with large windows that provide an inspiring and expansive learning environment. We are well-equipped with a full suite of Photoshop software, XLR cameras, a green screen, a smoke machine, and more. Additionally, we offer pottery as part of the curriculum, with kilns available on-site.

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the department and shape the curriculum to reflect both the skills and interests of students and the teaching team. You will lead a team of two young, enthusiastic Art and Photography teachers, while also having the chance to be involved in incredible extracurricular experiences, such as our bi-annual Photography trips to New York City and other school trips to Kenya and Barcelona.

The Role:
As Head of Art and Photography, you will be responsible for leading a passionate and creative team, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and student outcomes. You will have the opportunity to innovate and develop the curriculum, inspire students, and foster a collaborative atmosphere within the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Art and Photography department to ensure high-quality teaching and positive student outcomes.
  • Develop and implement an engaging and innovative curriculum that caters to the needs and interests of students.
  • Inspire and support a dynamic team of teachers, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.
  • Monitor and assess the performance of students and the department, driving continuous improvement.
  • Manage resources and facilities effectively to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Engage in wider school initiatives and contribute to the school’s vibrant community.

Why Join This School?

  • The school boasts a strong sense of community among staff, with regular social events like drinks at the local pub after work on Fridays, staff football teams, and other social gatherings.
  • The Senior Leadership Team is approachable, collaborative, and committed to listening to and acting on the needs of both students and staff.
  • The school is open to innovation in teaching and encourages creativity in the classroom.
  • Fantastic professional development opportunities and the chance to shape the future of the department.
  • A beautiful, well-resourced environment for both teaching and personal development.
  • Exciting extracurricular opportunities, including trips to New York, Kenya, and Barcelona.

This is an incredible opportunity to lead a thriving department and make a lasting impact on the lives of young people. If you're ready to inspire the next generation of artists and photographers and contribute to a school with a true sense of community, we’d love to hear from you.
