Job description

About the Role:

We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Functional Skills Tutor to work with pupils accessing Alternative Provisions across North Tyneside. You will provide one-on-one tuition in the home, local community or in school to help students improve their maths and English skills, gain confidence, and reach their academic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored sessions, based on their individual needs and learning styles.
  • Track student progress and provide feedback via our learning platform.
  • Build positive relationships with students, encouraging a growth mindset and self-confidence in their abilities.
  • Support students in exam preparation, homework help, and improving their overall maths and English skills.
  • Adapt teaching methods to suit different levels of understanding and learning styles.

Key Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of the UK National Curriculum for Key Stage 3 or 4.
  • Previous experience tutoring to students outside of the school system or those with additional needs.
  • Patience, adaptability, and the ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students.
  • Qualified Teacher Status or the equivalent tutoring experience.
  • Ability to work independently and manage your time effectively.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
