Job description

Join Our Team as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) at a Leading SEMH Provision in Salford

Teaching Personnel is proud to partner with a highly respected specialist Social, Emotional, Mental Health (SEMH) provision in Salford. This dedicated school is more than just a place of learning—it's a sanctuary for students who find mainstream education challenging. Here, every student is given the opportunity to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally within a nurturing and supportive environment.

We are currently seeking a compassionate and resilient Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our committed team. In this vital role, you will be a key figure in the lives of students dealing with anxiety, depression, and a range of other SEMH challenges, including those at risk of self-harm or suicidal thoughts. Your work will be central to ensuring each student’s well-being and helping them achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tailored Student Support: Provide both one-on-one and group support, creating a safe space where students feel understood and valued.
  • Nurturing Environment: Help foster a positive learning atmosphere that promotes the social, emotional, and academic growth of each student.
  • Collaborative Care: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to design and implement personalised support plans that address the unique needs of each student.
  • Resilience Building: Assist students in developing effective coping strategies and resilience skills to manage their emotions and behaviors.
  • Progress Monitoring: Keep detailed and confidential records of student progress, behavior, and emotional well-being, ensuring that each student's journey is carefully documented and supported.
  • Relationship Building: Engage with students to build strong, trusting relationships that reinforce their sense of belonging and self-worth.
  • Behavioral Support: Collaborate with colleagues to implement behavioral interventions and de-escalation techniques, maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all.
  • Academic Support: Contribute to the academic progress of students, particularly those working towards their GCSE qualifications, by supporting our inclusion group and other educational activities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • Empathy and Resilience: A deep sense of empathy, patience, and resilience to effectively support students through challenging behaviors and situations.
  • Team Collaboration: The ability to work seamlessly as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to the holistic care and development of students.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of students and the SEMH provision.
  • Relevant Experience: While qualifications in education, psychology, social work, or a related field are advantageous, they are not essential. Passion and dedication are what matter most.
  • Safeguarding: This role requires an Enhanced DBS check, as the safety and well-being of our students are our top priority.
