English Teacher – Secondary School in Southampton

Location: Southampton
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Start Date: January 2024 (opportunity for an earlier start available)

We are working with a well-established secondary school in Southampton that is looking to appoint an ambitious and talented English Teacher to join their thriving English department. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who wants to make a real difference in students’ lives by fostering a love for literature, language, and writing.


The Role

As an English Teacher, you will:

  • Teach English across KS3 and KS4, with the potential to teach KS5 for suitable candidates.
  • Plan and deliver engaging and thought-provoking lessons, ensuring that all learners, regardless of ability, have the opportunity to achieve.
  • Support students in their preparation for GCSE exams, focusing on key skills such as critical thinking, analysis, and structured writing.
  • Promote literacy and language development throughout the school by organising activities such as creative writing clubs, book discussions, and debates.

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for a teacher who is:

  • Qualified with UK QTS, PGCE, or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experienced in teaching English at secondary level, with a strong understanding of the curriculum and exam specifications.
  • Passionate about English and committed to inspiring students to develop their skills in reading, writing, and communication.
  • Able to create an inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported, regardless of their ability level.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
