Teaching Personnel are working with a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking secondary school located in the heart of Portsmouth, committed to delivering outstanding education to our diverse student community.
We are seeking to appoint a passionate and dynamic English Teacher to join their committed and enthusiastic English Department from September 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher or an Early Career Teacher (ECT) looking to begin their teaching journey in a supportive and collaborative environment.
As a teacher of English, you will play a key role in delivering a broad, balanced, and engaging English curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will be responsible for fostering a love of literature, language, and communication, helping students of all abilities to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities

Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality English lessons that inspire and challenge all learners in accordance with the national curriculum.

Teach across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the potential to teach at Key Stage 5 for the right candidate.

Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND and EAL.

Set clear learning objectives and provide constructive feedback to ensure continued progress.

Mark and assess student work in line with school policy, maintaining accurate records and reporting on student progress.

Promote high standards of literacy, including correct use of English, both written and spoken.

Create a positive classroom environment that fosters respect, inclusion, and high expectations for behaviour and achievement.

Contribute to the development of curriculum resources and schemes of work.

Participate in school events, parent's evenings, and whole-school CPD.

Work collaboratively with colleagues across the English department and the wider school community.

Actively contribute to the pastoral care of students, including the role of form tutor where required.

Promote a culture of reading and critical thinking, encouraging student engagement with diverse texts and media.
What We’re Looking For
-
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or pending completion for ECTs.

A degree in English Literature, English Language, or a related discipline.
-
A genuine passion for English and a desire to make the subject engaging and accessible to all students.

Excellent classroom management skills and high expectations for behaviour and achievement.

A commitment to inclusive education and the ability to adapt teaching to meet the needs of all learners.

Strong organisational and time-management skills.

A willingness to contribute to extra-curricular activities and the wider school community.

A reflective practitioner committed to ongoing professional development.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
