Job Advertisement: Full-Time English Teacher – Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and experienced English Teacher to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Liverpool. This role is ideal for a passionate educator committed to making a real difference in the lives of young people who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering KS4 English in small, focused classes of up to 12 students, with support from a Teaching Assistant. Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a Form Tutor, providing pastoral care and building meaningful relationships with students.
  • Leading English interventions to support individual progress.
  • Delivering PSHE lessons, helping students develop life skills and personal growth.

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience teaching KS4 English.
  • Previous experience in a PRU or alternative provision, supporting students with complex needs and challenging behavior.
  • Strong behavior management skills, resilience, and the ability to engage and motivate students.
  • A nurturing and empathetic approach, building trust and fostering positive relationships with vulnerable young people.

Students at the PRU have experienced difficulties in mainstream education and require tailored support to re-engage with learning. Many have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, thriving best in a structured and patient teaching environment.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
