English Specialist Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Wilmslow

Teaching Personnel is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable English Specialist Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Wilmslow. This full-time position begins in February and runs until the end of the academic year, with the opportunity for the role to become permanent, depending on performance. The weekly pay for this position is £419.25 - £500.

Role Overview

This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual with strong English skills who is passionate about helping students succeed academically and develop their confidence in literacy. As an English Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will play an integral role in supporting students in mastering reading, writing, and analytical skills while contributing to their overall progress in English.

Key Responsibilities

  • Targeted Interventions: Deliver tailored support to small groups and individual students who need assistance in developing their English skills, focusing on areas such as reading comprehension, creative writing, grammar, and essay structuring.
  • Classroom Support: Work alongside the English teacher to deliver engaging lessons and provide additional support to ensure all students can access the curriculum.
  • Curriculum Enhancement: Reinforce lesson content by explaining key concepts in accessible ways and adapting resources to meet the needs of students with different learning styles and abilities.
  • Literacy Development: Help students improve literacy skills, including vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, and reading fluency.
  • Exam Preparation: Assist students in preparing for GCSE or other key exams by reviewing key topics, providing practice materials, and teaching effective revision strategies.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track students’ progress, identify areas for improvement, and communicate effectively with teachers to ensure strategies are aligned with student needs.
  • Encouraging Confidence: Support students in building self-esteem and confidence in their English abilities, helping them overcome challenges and engage more fully in their learning.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong English Knowledge: A solid understanding of English, ideally at A-Level or degree level, with a passion for the subject.
  • Experience in Education: Previous experience working with young people in an educational, tutoring, or support role is desirable, though not essential.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to connect with students and explain complex ideas clearly.
  • Adaptability: A flexible and patient approach to working with students of varying abilities and learning styles.
  • Team Player: A collaborative attitude to work effectively with teachers, staff, and students.
  • Commitment: A genuine dedication to improving students’ academic outcomes and overall well-being.
