English Graduate Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Denton

Teaching Personnel is looking for an English Graduate Teaching Assistant for an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Denton. This full-time role starts in December and will continue until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of a permanent position based on performance. The pay for this role is between £419.25 - £500 per week, depending on experience.

Role Overview:

As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will provide crucial support to both students and the English department. This role is ideal for recent English graduates considering a career in teaching or those seeking valuable classroom experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting Students: Work with small groups and individual students, helping them improve their reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
  • Lesson Assistance: Support teachers with lesson preparation, ensuring students are provided with the necessary resources and materials for English lessons.
  • 1:1 Intervention: Deliver targeted support to students who may need extra assistance, particularly in English literature and language.
  • Behaviour Management: Assist in maintaining a focused, productive learning environment by supporting classroom behaviour management in line with school policies.
  • Progress Monitoring: Help monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff, identifying areas where additional support may be needed.
  • Literacy Support: Encourage and develop students' interest in English, aiding in their understanding of complex texts and improving their writing skills.
  • Extracurricular Involvement: Get involved in activities such as homework clubs, reading groups, and other enrichment opportunities aimed at developing students' engagement with English.
  • Pastoral Care: Provide pastoral support to students, promoting their well-being and confidence in their academic abilities.

Ideal Candidate:

  • A recent English graduate (or related degree) with a passion for literature, language, and education.
  • Someone with strong communication skills, able to engage students of varying abilities and learning styles.
  • A supportive and encouraging individual who can help build students' confidence in English.
  • Any experience in working with young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring) would be advantageous, though it’s not essential.
  • A patient and empathetic approach, with the ability to handle different learning needs and behavioural challenges.
  • Someone who is proactive, organised, and able to manage time effectively in a dynamic school environment.
  • A desire to pursue a career in education, with this role offering valuable experience towards future teacher training.

Position Details:

  • Start Date: December
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • Pay: £419.25 - £500 per week (depending on experience)
  • Contract: Temporary until the end of the academic year, with potential for a permanent role depending on performance.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
