English Graduate Teaching Assistant – Full-Time in Chorlton-cum-Hardy

Teaching Personnel is seeking an enthusiastic English Graduate Teaching Assistant for an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Chorlton-cum-Hardy. This full-time role is set to begin in December and will run until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent position based on performance. The pay for this role is between £419.25 and £500 per week, depending on experience.

Role Overview:

As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the English department, supporting both students and teachers in delivering high-quality lessons. This position is ideal for recent English graduates who are passionate about education and are considering a career in teaching or working in the education sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Support: Assist the classroom teacher in delivering engaging and effective English lessons. Provide support to students during lessons, ensuring they remain focused and understand key concepts.
  • 1:1 and Small Group Intervention: Offer targeted support to students who may need additional help in English. This includes one-to-one sessions and small group interventions, focusing on reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
  • Lesson Preparation: Help prepare teaching materials and resources, contributing to the creation of interactive and enriching learning activities that engage students across various abilities.
  • Homework and Assessment: Support students with homework tasks and assist teachers with marking and assessment, providing constructive feedback to help students improve their work.
  • Mentoring and Encouragement: Act as a positive role model for students, helping to boost their confidence and motivation in English, encouraging a love for reading and writing.
  • Behaviour Management: Help maintain a positive and conducive learning environment by supporting the classroom teacher in managing student behaviour and ensuring that students stay engaged.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track individual student progress and report findings to teachers, assisting in the identification of students who may benefit from additional intervention.
  • Safeguarding: Ensure the welfare of all students is maintained at all times by adhering to the school’s safeguarding policies.

Ideal Candidate:

  • English Graduate: A degree in English or a related subject is essential.
  • Passion for Education: A strong interest in education, particularly in teaching English, and a desire to help students achieve their academic goals.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: The ability to communicate effectively with students and explain challenging concepts in a clear and accessible way.
  • Supportive and Approachable: A patient, empathetic, and encouraging approach when working with students, particularly those who may struggle with English.
  • Team Player: The ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff, ensuring a united approach to student learning.
  • Organised and Proactive: Strong organisational skills and a proactive attitude in supporting the department’s needs.

Position Details:

  • Start Date: December
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • Pay: £419.25 - £500 per week (depending on experience)
  • Contract: Temporary until the end of the academic year, with the potential to be made permanent depending on performance.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
