An award-winning Special Educational Needs (SEN) school group is seeking a dedicated Designated Safeguarding and Pastoral Lead to join its site in Royston. The Role:
The Designated Safeguarding and Pastoral Lead will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of safeguarding and pastoral care within the school. This individual will work closely with students, staff, families, and external agencies to create a culture of safety, trust, and emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring compliance with all statutory safeguarding requirements and school policies.
- Lead on child protection concerns, referrals, and liaison with external safeguarding partners.
- Provide pastoral support to students, promoting emotional resilience and positive well-being.
- Deliver safeguarding training to staff and ensure up-to-date knowledge of policies and best practices.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN specialists, and support staff to create an inclusive and safe environment for all students.
- Maintain accurate records of safeguarding concerns, interventions, and referrals.
- Support students with behaviour management strategies and assist in conflict resolution.
- Promote a school culture that prioritises the welfare and personal development of every student.
Person Specification:
The successful candidate will have:
- Relevant safeguarding qualifications (such as DSL training) and experience in a safeguarding role within an educational or SEN setting.
- A strong understanding of statutory safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Experience working with children and young people with SEN, particularly those with complex needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with students, staff, and external professionals.
- A compassionate and student-centred approach, with a commitment to supporting emotional well-being and development.
- Strong leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to manage safeguarding processes effectively.
- The ability to work proactively, confidentially, and sensitively when dealing with safeguarding concerns.
- A relevant qualification in social work, education, psychology, or a related field (desirable but not essential).
