What is a Cover Supervisor?

A Cover Supervisor is a key member of the school team, responsible for maintaining a calm and focused learning environment when teachers are absent. This is a vital role, providing continuity in pupils' education while ensuring classroom behaviour remains in line with school policies.

While you won’t be required to teach new material, you’ll need to oversee the class, manage behaviour, and distribute the pre-set work. The role is ideal for individuals looking to gain experience in education, recent graduates, or those considering a future in teaching.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students in the absence of the classroom teacher.
  • Manage classroom behaviour and ensure students are engaged with the work set.
  • Provide support to pupils during lessons where required.
  • Respond to any questions or concerns that pupils may have about their work.
  • Uphold the school’s behaviour policies and deal with any disruptive students appropriately.
  • Report back to teachers on the progress and behaviour of students during the lesson.
  • Assist with administrative tasks when required.

Requirements:

  • Minimum GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • A degree is beneficial but not essential – particularly for those considering a future in teaching.
  • A genuine interest in working with young people.
  • Ability to manage classroom behaviour confidently and calmly.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Adaptability, as you’ll be working across a variety of subjects.
  • Previous experience in an educational setting or working with children is beneficial, but not essential.
  • Patience, resilience, and the willingness to rise to a challenge, as some schools in Leigh Park can present unique behavioural challenges.

Benefits of Working with Teaching Personnel:

  • Flexible Work: Choose the days you want to work to suit your lifestyle.
  • Professional Development: Access to regular CPD (Continuous Professional Development) opportunities, including safeguarding, behaviour management, and subject-specific training.
  • Dedicated Consultant: Your own personal recruitment consultant to support and advise you in your role.
  • Opportunity for Growth: Gain invaluable classroom experience – perfect for those considering a career in teaching.
  • Referral Bonus: Recommend a friend and earn bonuses for successful referrals.
  • Supportive Community: Join a network of education professionals who are passionate about improving young people’s lives.

Why Work as a Cover Supervisor?

This role offers you the chance to develop your classroom management skills and gain valuable insight into the world of education. Whether you’re exploring teaching as a career, looking for flexible work, or want to make a real impact on young people’s lives, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

You’ll need to enjoy a challenge as some of the schools we work with in Leigh Park may present behavioural issues, but with the right attitude and support, you’ll find it a rewarding experience.
