Job description

Behaviour Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate KS4 Behaviour Support Assistant to join our client secondary school in October. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students in Key Stage 4 (KS4) who may be experiencing behavioural challenges. You will work closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to create tailored support plans that promote positive behaviour and academic success.

The school is based in the heart of Manchester City Centre and is a 2-minute walk from public transport options including bus and tram stops. There is also a large onsite car park for members of staff with a vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Students: Work directly with students exhibiting challenging behaviours, providing one-on-one or small group support to help them engage positively with their learning.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement strategies for managing behaviour effectively, ensuring that students understand expectations and consequences.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with teaching staff to develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students requiring additional support, ensuring that interventions are consistent and effective.
  • Monitoring Progress: Track and monitor student progress in relation to behaviour goals, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Crisis Intervention: Respond promptly to incidents of disruptive behaviour or crises within the classroom or school environment, using de-escalation techniques as necessary.
  • Promote Inclusion: Foster an inclusive atmosphere by encouraging positive relationships among students and promoting respect for diversity.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Previous experience working with students who have behavioural difficulties or special educational needs is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
  • A patient, empathetic approach combined with resilience and adaptability in challenging situations.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation regarding special educational needs (SEN) and safeguarding practices.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
