Job Advertisement: 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant (January - July 2025) - Plumstead, South East London (SE18)

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team from January to July 2025 (covering two terms). This is an excellent opportunity for a professional who is passionate about supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a nurturing and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities of the 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • 1:1 Support: Provide tailored support for a student with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them to engage with the curriculum and achieve their individual learning goals.
  • Classroom Assistance: Support the class teacher in the delivery of lessons, ensuring the student’s needs are met in a whole-class setting as required.
  • Personalised Learning: Assist in the development and implementation of individual learning plans (ILPs) and adapt resources to suit the student’s specific needs.
  • Communication with Parents: Maintain regular communication with the class teacher and SENCo to update on progress and share relevant information about the student’s development.
  • Behavioural Support: Implement strategies to support positive behaviour and emotional well-being, working closely with the student to foster independence and confidence.

Candidate Requirements for the 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant role:

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children who have Special Educational Needs (SEN) is essential. Experience in a 1:1 role is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of SEN: A solid understanding of different types of SEN, including autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties, and the ability to tailor support to meet the individual needs of the student.
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and other professionals to support the student’s progress.
  • Professionalism: A patient and empathetic approach with a genuine desire to make a difference in the life of a child with additional needs.

Additional Information:

  • PPA (Planning, Preparation, and Assessment) Time: You will have dedicated time to plan and collaborate with the class teacher to ensure the student’s needs are being met.
  • Supportive Environment: You will work alongside a supportive team, including a class teacher, SENCo, and other teaching assistants, to ensure the best outcomes for the student.
  • 1:1 SEN Support: The role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the student's educational journey, fostering their independence and helping them to access learning alongside their peers.
