Youth Worker – Levenshulme

Teaching Personnel is seeking a committed and dynamic Youth Worker to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Levenshulme. This full-time role is set to begin in October and will run until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent position based on performance. The role offers a weekly pay rate of £419.25 to £500.

Role Overview:

As a Youth Worker, you will play a crucial role in supporting the personal, social, and educational development of young people within the school. You will work closely with students to help them overcome barriers to learning, improve their self-esteem, and make positive life choices. Your role will involve both one-on-one support and group activities, aimed at fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Engagement: Build trusting relationships with students, offering support and guidance to help them navigate personal and academic challenges. You will be a key figure in promoting positive behavior and attitudes among students.

  • Mentorship: Provide mentoring to students who may be at risk of disengagement, helping them to set and achieve personal goals. You will guide them through difficulties, offering practical and emotional support.

  • Program Development: Assist in the planning and delivery of activities and programs designed to engage students, improve their social skills, and promote a sense of belonging within the school community.

  • Behavior Support: Work with students displaying challenging behavior, helping them to understand and manage their actions. You will implement strategies to encourage positive behavior and reduce incidences of misconduct.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to student support. You will contribute to the development and implementation of individual support plans.

  • Monitoring and Reporting: Keep accurate records of interactions with students, tracking their progress and reporting on their development to senior staff. Your insights will inform decisions on how best to support each student.

  • Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support in situations where students may be in distress, ensuring their safety and well-being. You will be trained in de-escalation techniques and other relevant skills.

  • Parental Involvement: Engage with parents and carers, providing updates on their child’s progress and involving them in the support process where appropriate.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with young people in a school or community setting, particularly those who may be vulnerable or at risk.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to helping students succeed.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by young people today, and a passion for making a positive impact on their lives.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with a range of professionals.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
