Job description

Youth Worker

-          Supporting children with social, emotional, and mental health conditions

Teaching Personnel have been approached by a school in Blackburn who require a Youth Worker. The school is a specialist SEN provision which caters for boys and girls ages 11-16 who have complex SEMH difficulties and often displays very challenging behaviours. The school attempts to provide specialist and individualised support for each pupil who attends this school. Many pupils who attend this provision have previously had a bad experience at school and have been persistently absent. Therefore, this provision has a wide and varied curriculum which can appeal to the strengths of each pupil and help them to re-engage.

As a youth worker, you will be responsible for:

-          Helping a cohort of pupils to engage in their lessons

-          Be a motivator for pupils when they do not want to attend

-          Build rapport with pupils

-          Advocate for them when others are planning a individualised curriculum

-          Support pupils in and outside of lessons

Previous experience in a PRU setting would be great but isn’t essential as full training will be given, and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important. These roles are ideal for people working in customer facing industries including retail, hospitality and leisure, looking for a new role that makes a real difference to children’s lives and futures.

The pay for this role will be £12.90 - £13.50 per hour.

This is a full-time role spanning across school hours Monday – Friday.
