Teaching Assistant (Welsh Medium) – Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Support

Location: Pontypridd, Wales
Contract: Full time, part time
Salary: £12.90 an hour

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to work across Welsh medium primary schools in the Pontypridd area. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing tailored support to pupils with additional learning needs, ensuring they thrive in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to children with a variety of additional learning needs (ALN) across all primary ages (4-11 years).
  • Assist class teachers in creating and delivering inclusive lesson plans and activities in line with each child’s individual education plan (IEP).
  • Support the emotional, social, and academic development of pupils, helping them to engage fully with school life.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers, ALN coordinators, and parents as required.
  • Adapt resources and teaching strategies to suit the needs of individual pupils, ensuring they are fully included in the classroom.
  • Encourage the use of the Welsh language in all school activities and promote bilingualism.
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment.

Essential Criteria:

  • Fluent in Welsh (spoken and written) to confidently support Welsh medium education.
  • Experience working with children with additional learning needs (ALN), either in a school setting or other relevant experience.
  • Ability to work across all primary ages, from Foundation Phase to Key Stage 2 (4-11 years).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage time effectively and adapt to the needs of individual pupils.
  • A genuine passion for inclusive education and a commitment to ensuring every child reaches their full potential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
