Job description
Teaching Personnel is recruiting aspiring Teaching Assistants in the Newport and Cwmbran areas! We have high demand for Teaching Assistants in secondary schools and are looking for Trainee Teaching Assistants to support pupils aged 11–16.
As a Trainee Teaching Assistant, you'll receive online training courses throughout your registration with Teaching Personnel, followed by a 5-day paid placement in a local school. After completing your training and placement, we'll be able to offer you full-time Teaching Assistant work in your area.
Our Trainee Teaching Assistant opportunities are perfect for anyone passionate about working with children but lacking the experience or qualifications needed for a full-time school position.
We also offer part-time opportunities—please mention this during registration if you prefer part-time hours.
All of these Trainee Teaching Assistant positions will require you to support pupils with Special Educational Needs, so a passion for helping others and an interest/willingness to learn how to best support children with SEN is essential.
Details:
- Trainee Teaching Assistant position
- Supporting pupils ages 11-16
- Earn between £83.85 - £90 a day
- Hours: 08:30 – 15:30 (Mon-Fri) term time only
- Work in secondary schools within Newport and Cwmbran areas
- Start dates in January and February 2025
As a Trainee Teaching Assistant, you'll complete comprehensive training including: Introduction to being a Teaching Assistant, Level 2 Safeguarding, KCSIE (Keeping Children Safe in Education), and Positive Behaviour training.
Following your online training modules, you'll complete a 5-day paid placement in schools within your area. Once you've finished both training and placement, you'll be eligible for full-time or part-time teaching assistant jobs with Teaching Personnel

We Are Looking For Someone With:
- A passion for education
- A commitment to complete the training sessions
- Dedication and readiness to work as a Teaching Assistant
- Demonstrable experience in working with or volunteering alongside children or vulnerable adults in various capacities
- For candidates without direct experience with children, the ability to articulate and showcase transferable skills from previous roles that are applicable to an educational setting
- An Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check on the update service, or a willingness to undergo this essential safeguarding process
- A genuine, enthusiastic attitude towards inspiring and motivating children to reach their full potential
- Flexibility and commitment to adhere to standard school hours, typically from 8:30am to 3:30pm, ensuring consistent support throughout the school day
