Teaching Assistant – Specialist Needs (MLD)
Location:Birmingham
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time

The Role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will support students with MLD in the classroom, helping them to access learning and reach their individual goals. You will work closely with class teachers and other support staff to create a positive, inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the class teacher in delivering lessons that meet the needs of students with moderate learning difficulties.
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to students, adapting learning activities to suit individual needs.
- Support students in developing their social, communication, and life skills through structured activities and interactions.
- Help implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and contribute to progress reviews.
- Promote positive behaviour and assist with behaviour management strategies, encouraging students to develop self-confidence and independence.
- Foster a safe and nurturing classroom environment that promotes respect and inclusivity.
- Assist with the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure consistent support for each student.
- Support students with physical, emotional, or sensory needs, as required.
- Provide pastoral care and encourage participation in school activities.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally in a special educational needs (SEN) setting.
- A passion for supporting children with MLD or additional learning needs.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the varied needs of students.
Desirable
- Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
- Experience working in a special school or specialist SEN setting.
- Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and techniques for working with students with MLD.
