Job description

Position: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant Location: Sittingbourne Hours: Full-time Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs? We are looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a non-verbal child in a unique, primarily outdoor-based curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

· Provide 1:1 support to a non-verbal child, fostering communication, engagement, and development.

· Assist in the delivery of an outdoor learning curriculum, utilizing nature to encourage exploration, play, and hands-on learning.

· Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and family members to ensure consistent support and progress.

· Foster a positive, nurturing environment where the child can build confidence, independence, and emotional well-being.

· Support the child's physical and emotional needs during outdoor activities.

Requirements:

· Experience working with children with special educational needs, ideally with non-verbal communication.

· A passion for outdoor learning and a creative, flexible approach to teaching.

· Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trust and rapport with children.

· Strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with other staff and families.

Desirable:

· Experience in Forest School or outdoor learning settings.

· Relevant SEN qualifications or training.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
