Job description

1:1 Teaching Assistant - Rhondda

Do you have experience supporting vulnerable adults or children?
Do you have experience in the care or support work sector?
Maybe you have personal experience supporting children with additional learning needs?

If you answered yes to the above then Teaching Personnel has the role for you! We are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis supporting students with additional learning needs and attachment difficulties in Secondary School in the RCT area. This position is available to start ASAP and potentially running until July 2025.  Interviews for this position are being held online over Microsoft Teams.

What does a 1:1 Teaching Assistant do?

You will be supporting a student in Year 9 on a 1:1 basis throughout the school day. The student you will be working with is in foster care and has some attachment difficulties and this ultimately affects their behaviour within school. Accompanying the student throughout their school day going from lesson to lesson, helping understand the work they have been set, breaking down what is being asked of them and trying to keep them as task focused as possible. Challenging behaviours will be a regular aspect of your day so having the ability to manage this and remain calm under pressure is very important.

What is needed to be a 1:1 Teaching Assistant?

The school have indicated that they do not require someone with direct Teaching Assistant experience or qualifications although it is advantageous. Applicants from alternative backgrounds such as the care or support work sector, sports coaches and any other profession that involves working with children or supporting vulnerable adults are highly valued. To work within schools there are some mandatory requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS certificate available on the update service
  • Registered with the EWC (Education Workforce Council)

Teaching Personnel can provide assistance with your DBS & EWC applications.
