Job description

Teaching Personnel have an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly expanding SEN college near Holton Heath (Poole), Dorset. We are currently seeking a number of Learning Support Assistants or Teaching Assistants to join this college on a full-time basis.

The college is specialised in educating pupils with various SEN needs, such as Learning Difficulties, Physical Disabilities and other associated needs such as Speech and Language needs.

The students will have all been identified as having complex and additional needs and will have an individualised curriculum based on their specific needs.

The College provides opportunities for personal growth through access to engaging activities and connecting with nature. From gardening, forestry therapy, arts, bird watching, equine therapy and walking, students benefit from an inclusive and supportive community.

The site is set in beautiful grounds and has been uniquely adapted to offer each and every pupil the same opportunities and experiences.

Applicants will be working in a classroom and off-site supporting teachers, teaching assistants and fellow support workers.

They are looking for individuals that are passionate about developing a career and will be willing to put you through training, including teaching training for dedicated members of the team.

This is an ideal opportunity for anyone who is fancying a change in career or if you have a keen interest in special needs.

Experience is preferred but not necessary.

Previous experience of looking after children would be an advantage however a can-do attitude and commitment to the children and your team is equally as important.

 

Main Duties

  • Supporting class Senior LSA’s and Teachers with the preparation of resources to meet the personalised learning intentions of allocated students.
  • Providing 1:1 support under the supervision of the class Teacher for the delivery of skills-based learning.
  • To work with the Head of Student Support, Behaviour and Welfare Support Leads to support the social and emotional needs of young people
  • Work closely with class Teacher to report on progress using an evidence-based approach
  • To enable students to learn by; understanding their learning goals and targets; enable them to practice and learn new skills and challenge them to be as independent as possible
  • To be involved in the provision of all aspects of support necessary that will ensure the students wellbeing and ability to function and engage in learning.
  • To provide the highest standards of holistic care and attention for the students by understanding the guidelines and advice provided by the multidisciplinary team and the individuals own preferences and wishes.
  • To assist in the provision of a safe and stimulating environment and activities for students which will challenge and enable them to learn and practice their skills.
  • To understand and fully implement Safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • To take an active role in enabling students to learn against their targets through all aspects of College life and to record their achievements using EFL software.
  • To assist in maintaining accurate records both written and electronic in accordance with registration and legal requirements, these will need to be timely, informed and legible. 
  • To participate fully in the College’s quality assurance processes and procedures by reflecting on your own practice, the class team(s), the college as a whole.
  • To participate in and take full advantage of the staff training programmes, including mandatory training, staff meetings, supervision and annual performance reviews.
  • To perform such additional activities commensurate with the post of Education/Enabling Support Worker as may be requested by a Senior Manager. 
  • To be responsible for and able to evidence own personal development by undertaking relevant training, attending meetings, conferences and events ensuring that you are updated in all matters relevant to the role within your Personal Development Plan agreed with your line manager.

 

Please note: Due to the location of the site it is difficult to get to if you do not drive, access to a car would be beneficial. However there may be opportunities to Carpool with other candidates in a similar position.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
