Teacher of Social Science (Sociology) - Maternity Cover
Full-Time | MPS/UPS | January 2025 Start | Essex based

The PWR team is partnering with a well-respected secondary school to find a talented and dedicated Teacher of Social Science, specializing in Sociology, to cover a maternity leave from January 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a committed school community and contribute to the development of young people through engaging and insightful teaching.

About the Role
As a Teacher of Sociology, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging lessons to students at Key Stage 4 and 5. Your passion for the subject will inspire students to think critically, develop their understanding of societal issues, and achieve their academic potential.

The role offers a competitive salary on the MPS/UPS scale, commensurate with experience, and provides the opportunity to work within a supportive and forward-thinking team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess Sociology lessons for students in Key Stage 4 and 5.
  • Foster a dynamic classroom environment that encourages active learning and independent thinking.
  • Monitor student progress, providing timely feedback and intervention to support academic achievement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to continually develop and enhance the Social Science curriculum.
  • Provide a positive and nurturing environment, supporting students in their personal and academic development.
  • Participate in the school’s extracurricular activities and wider community initiatives.

Person Specification

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • A degree in Sociology or a related subject.
  • Experience teaching Sociology, ideally at both Key Stage 4 and 5.
  • A genuine passion for the subject and a commitment to inspiring students to achieve their best.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and the wider school community.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
