Job Overview
We are currently seeking a Support Worker to join our team in the East of England, specifically in Colchester, Essex. This is a temporary position (possibility to go on to a permanent role) with the expectation of working full-time hours. As a Support Worker, you will be primarily involved in providing assistance and support to students in an educational and training setting. This role requires flexibility, creativity, patience, empathy, and strong communication skills. The setting will be a specialist school for learners with additional needs.
Job Duties
- Provide support and assistance to individuals with special educational needs (SEN) in an educational and training environment
- Assist in implementing personalised learning plans for students
- Support students in their daily activities, including personal care, mobility, and social interactions
- Encourage and facilitate the development of essential life skills
- Monitor and record progress, highlighting any concerns or achievements
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment
- Adapt teaching materials and techniques to meet the individual needs of students
- Provide assistance during educational outings and trips
- Ensure the well-being and safety of students at all times
- Contribute to the overall positive and nurturing atmosphere within the educational setting
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of A-C in English and Maths at GCSE level
- Valid certification in Safeguarding (course provided if you do not have one)
Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
- Prior experience supporting individuals with special educational needs (SEN) is essential
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to effectively engage and build rapport with individuals of diverse backgrounds and abilities
- Flexibility and creativity in adapting to the changing needs of students
- Patience and empathy in providing support and guidance
- Basic knowledge of educational principles and practises
- Understanding of safeguarding procedures
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Further education or relevant qualifications in special education or related fields
- Experience working within a similar educational or care setting
Working Conditions
This position is temporary but may have an oppotunity to become a permanent role, with full-time hours expected (8am - 4pm). You will be working within an educational and training environment, collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals. The role may involve assisting individuals with personal care and mobility. As a Support Worker, you will be responsible for ensuring the well-being and safety of students at all times.
The salary for this position ranges from £77 to £100 per day, depending on qualifications and experience.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
