Position: Speech and Language Support

Location: Preston

Start date: September 2024

Contract type: Temporary / temp to perm

Working hours: Full time (Monday-Friday, 8:30-4:30)

Pay rate: £12.90-£14.50 p/h

A specialist provision in the Preston area is looking for an individual to provide Speech and Language Support, joining their team from September 2024 on a temporary basis! This provision provides extensive support to pupils aged 5-11 with SEMH, SLCN speech and autism. Staff frequently use alternative communication methods such as PECs and Makaton. This warm, welcoming provision ensures that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential through consistent encouragement, a caring, stimulating and challenging environment and providing a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

As a Speech and Language Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing general and 1-1 support to pupils with SLCN, tailoring their curriculum and daily structure to ensure they have a smooth and successful school experience. You will facilitate the child’s participation in classroom activities, providing specific support for their speech and language through alterative communication strategies and methods. You will liaise with both the classroom teachers and parents to ensure you are collectively maximising pupil’s progress and altering their lessons plans accordingly.

Role requirements:

  • Confident/experience using PECs/Makaton or open to accessing relevant training.
  • Relevant experience supporting children with additional needs.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques.
  • Empathy, patience and a genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents.
