Position: SEN Support Assistant
Location: Exeter
Salary: £84.50 - £90.00 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Full-Time (Temporary, with potential to become permanent)

Are you a compassionate and patient individual with a passion for supporting children with Autism? Teaching Personnel is currently seeking a dedicated SEN Support Assistant to join a dynamic team at a well-regarded school in Exeter. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a positive and inclusive learning environment.

About the Role: As an SEN Support Assistant, you will be working closely with children with Autism, supporting them both academically and socially to help them reach their full potential. You will be providing one-to-one and small group support, working with students to engage them in learning, encourage their social development, and ensure their well-being throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support for children with Autism, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Assist with the implementation of individual learning plans (IEPs) to help students achieve their academic and personal goals.
  • Support children with communication challenges, promoting social interaction and inclusion within the class.
  • Help with managing classroom behaviour and creating a safe, positive, and structured learning environment.
  • Encourage students to engage with the curriculum, providing support where necessary to help them complete tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other staff members to ensure the best outcomes for students.
  • Assist with personal care and other needs where required, maintaining dignity and respect for all children.
  • Observe and report on student progress, highlighting achievements and areas for development.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children, ideally in a SEN setting or with Autism, is highly desirable.
  • A genuine passion for helping children with Autism and supporting their development.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to manage challenging behaviour in a calm and positive manner.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • The ability to build strong, trusting relationships with children and staff members.
  • A proactive approach, with a flexible attitude to adapt to the needs of individual students.
  • A commitment to supporting students’ emotional and social well-being.
  • An enhanced DBS check or willingness to apply for one.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
