SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant Opportunity with Teaching Personnel – Oldham Area

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges? Do you have the skills and dedication to support students in overcoming barriers to learning? If so, Teaching Personnel is looking for committed individuals like you to join our team as a SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant in secondary schools across Oldham.

About the Role:

As a SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional support to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Your role will involve working on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, helping to create a positive and inclusive learning environment that meets the individual needs of each student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with SEN/SEMH needs, helping them to engage with the curriculum and develop essential life skills.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with students, fostering a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to ensure students receive the best possible educational experience.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, adapting support strategies as needed.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN/SEMH needs in an educational or care setting.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient nature with a genuine desire to support students with additional needs.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and experience in de-escalation strategies.
  • A valid DBS check registered with the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
