JOB DESCRIPTION: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location:

North West England, Greater Manchester, Wigan

Job Type:

Temporary, Full-Time hours

£12.90 - £13.50 Per hour

Job Duties:

  • Supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in their academic and personal development
  • Assisting teachers in implementing individual learning plans for students
  • Providing one-on-one support to students to help them overcome barriers to learning
  • Supervising students during lessons and break times
  • Creating a safe and nurturing learning environment for students

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent
  • Enhanced DBS check

Education:

GCSEs in English and Maths or equivalent

Experience:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
  • Experience in a school or educational setting

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of SEMH and how it can impact learning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong behaviour management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • First Aid certification

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a school setting
  • Potential for challenging behaviour from students with SEMH needs
  • Regular interaction with teachers, parents, and external professionals

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
